Tailrace Park - One Minute Drive
Descend from Protea Hill and enjoy the Tailrace park a few hundred meters away. This is Riverside's riverbank area, wonderful for a walk along the Tamar or a picnic under the trees. Free electric barbecues available.
Trevallyn Reserve with Hoo Hoo Hut - Five Minute Drive
From Protea Hill Drive 2km into the magnificent Trevallyn Reserve. Great swim water in Trevallyn Lake, the impressive Trevallyn Dam. Fantastic walking tracks in the park for bushlovers.
The Hoo Hoo Hut is a great place for a barbecue (wood provided).
Tamar Wetlands Reserve - Five Minute Drive
A five minute drive from Protea Hill brings you to the Tamar Wetlands Reserve. There is an interesting display on bird life in the wetlands. The board walk to Tamar Island is easy and interesting. Discover how the Tamar River and it's surroundings are strongly influenced by the in-and-outgoing tides.
Grindelwald - Fifteen Minute Drive
The village of Grindelwald, just 15 minutes from Protea Hill, was the dream of Launceston businessman Roelf Vos. It tries to capture the atmosphere of Switzerland in a Tasmanian setting. It is worth a visit. There is an interesting nine hole and mini golf course.
